Setting up the Digitakt

PLUR needs a few settings on the Digitakt before anything responds. This is a one-time job that takes a couple of minutes. The same guide is built into the app, on the SETUP tab, and that copy is the one kept up to date.

Steps 1 to 5, required

  1. Set the track MIDI channels

    SETTINGS → MIDI CONFIG → CHANNELS

    Audio Track 9 to channel 9, Audio Track 10 to channel 10. These are the app's track 1 and track 2, and they must match the CH settings in the app's header.

  2. Move AUTO CHANNEL off the track channels

    SETTINGS → MIDI CONFIG → CHANNELS → AUTO CHANNEL = 16

    It ships on channel 10, which is exactly the app's track 2. The auto channel passes everything to whichever track is selected on the Digitakt, so with the default setting the app's second track follows your track selection on the box. Any channel works as long as it is not 9, 10, or your FX channel.

  3. Send MIDI clock and transport

    SETTINGS → MIDI CONFIG → SYNC → CLOCK SEND = ON, TRANSPORT SEND = ON

    The Digitakt drives the app. Start, stop and tempo all follow the box. Without this the app's sequencer will not run in sync.

  4. Choose an FX control channel

    SETTINGS → MIDI CONFIG → CHANNELS → FX CONTROL CH = 11

    Pick a free channel that is not a track channel and not the auto channel. Set the same number in the app's FX CH picker, then set that Audio Track to OFF so nothing else answers on it.

    A separate channel is needed because Elektron reuses CC numbers per channel. On a track channel, CC 26 and 27 are the filter base and width that the BW FILT encoder drives. On the FX channel the same numbers are delay LPF and reverb send, so if they collide, BW FILT chokes the delay.

  5. Set AMP MODE to AHD

    AMP page → MODE = AHD

    Not ADSR. The app's AMP ENV encoder drives the Digitakt's amp HOLD and DECAY together, and those two parameters only exist in AHD mode. In ADSR the same CCs land elsewhere and the encoder does nothing useful.

Steps 6 to 8, your choice

These are about the sound on the box, not about making the app work. PLUR drives whatever sits on the track, including ordinary samples.

  1. Load a single-cycle waveform, for a synth bass

    Samples/Drive/Factory/Oscillators/Single Cycles

    "SC Acid Squ" is a good place to start for a bassline. Every single cycle and wavetable has its own character, so try a few. A single cycle turns the track into a playable synth voice, which is where the fattest bass comes from. Point PLUR at a one-shot, a stab or a loop instead and it sequences and morphs that, with steps 6 and 7 skipped.

  2. Set the play mode to FORWARD LOOP

    SRC page → PLAY = FORWARD LOOP

    Only needed for a single cycle. It is what stretches one tiny cycle into a held tone. On an ordinary sample, leave PLAY alone.

  3. Select a filter machine

    Hold [SRC] → MACHINE → FLTR → LOWPASS 4

    A 24 dB per octave lowpass. Each filter machine gives a very different character, so try the others as well. COMB- adds an aggressive, metallic bite.

PLUR is made by one person, so a reply may take a few days. Please include your iPad model, your iPadOS version, and the app version shown in the SETUP tab.

What PLUR needs to work

PLUR sends MIDI only. It is not a synthesizer and makes no sound on its own.

Nothing responds when I play

This is almost always the one-time Digitakt setup. Go through steps 1 to 5 again. Until the MIDI channels, the clock and the amp mode all match, PLUR stays silent. Step 2 is the one people miss most often: the Digitakt ships with AUTO CHANNEL on 10, which collides with the app's second track.

The morph pad feels dead

The pad can only be heard for as long as a note is still sounding. With AMP ENV low the notes are short plucks and a filter sweep has nothing to move through. Raise AMP ENV first. The NOTE LENGTH entry in the app's GUIDE tab explains this in full.

Privacy policy

PLUR collects no data

PLUR does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. There is no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind. The app contains no third-party SDKs.

No network connection

PLUR makes no network requests. It communicates only over MIDI with hardware you connect to your iPad. Nothing leaves your device.

What is stored, and where

Your patterns, presets, morph pad scenes, and app settings are saved locally on your iPad. They stay on the device, are never uploaded anywhere, and are removed when you delete the app.

If you email support

When you write to the address above, we see your email address and whatever you put in the message. That correspondence is used only to answer you, and is not shared with anyone or used for any other purpose.

Children

PLUR collects no data from anyone, of any age.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
